For Romans, it is not enough for something to simply work. It has to work properly. The beauty is in the details, he explains. In the small adjustments that make the difference between an event that just runs and an event that truly succeeds.
As a Project Manager in the AV department at Bella Center, he is responsible for lighting, sound, screens, technical production, and event execution. All the things that should work so seamlessly that nobody notices them. But he also knows that reality is rarely that simple. Small mistakes can have major consequences, which is why his job is never just about technology. It is about people. About collaboration. About responsibility.
Romans joined Bellagroup as a freelancer and AV technician. Back then, he worked independently, focused solely on his own tasks and responsibilities. Later, he was asked if he wanted to take on an administrative layer in his role, something entirely new to him. Today, he sits at the intersection between clients and AV technicians. He listens to client needs, translates them into solutions, and ensures that the AV team has everything they need to deliver.
“You carry a double responsibility,” he says: “On one side, you have the client, and on the other, you have the AV technicians. Both are looking to me for answers.”
He describes his manager as a kind of big brother. Someone to bounce ideas off, someone who is there when things get difficult. It is a role he tries to take on himself as well. Colleagues call him when they are unsure about something, when challenges arise, or when the pace is intense. And Romans answers the phone. Because if one person makes a mistake, it affects everyone else, too.
For Romans, this is not extraordinary behavior. It is simply common sense. In fact, that sense of community, helpfulness, and trust, the feeling that you are not standing alone, was exactly what made the difference for him when he moved from freelance work to a permanent position at Bella Center.
Now, he is part of a team that lifts together.
Growing up in Latvia, he was naturally shaped by a work culture where relationships were often more formal and distant. At Bellagroup, he has experienced the opposite. A place where people speak openly. Where they recognize and praise each other. Where colleagues quite literally say “I love you.”
“It’s just big-brother love,” he says with a laugh.
There are hugs. People ask for help. And the answer is yes.
For Romans, great work is not about reaching the finish line at the lowest acceptable standard. When the pace becomes too intense, it is often the details that are sacrificed first, and that frustrates him. Because it is in the nuances that the wow factor is created.
He feels successful when an event is over and everyone is happy: the client, the guests, and the team. If something went wrong but was solved together along the way, that counts too. The focus is never on blame. It is on finding a solution.
As Romans puts it: “The job needs to get done. But it needs to get done together.”
